ABOUT THE DC PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD (DC PCSB)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The DC Public Charter School Board (DC PCSB) seeks a collaborative, mission-driven Community Engagement Specialist to help strengthen relationships between DC PCSB and the communities we serve. This position plays a dual role: leading proactive community engagement initiatives and managing the intake and resolution of community complaints related to public charter schools.

The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and relationship builder who can engage with diverse groups—families, students, community leaders, partners, and educators—with empathy, respect, and a commitment to transparency.


Community Engagement

● Plan and execute community engagement initiatives that elevate community voice in public education and lead our Parent and Alumni Leadership Council (or PALC).

● Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, families, school leaders, and other groups to understand emerging issues and perspectives.

● Collaborate with DC PCSB teams to ensure community perspectives inform decision-making.

● Represent DC PCSB at community meetings, school events, and other public forums.

● Help design and facilitate listening sessions, focus groups, and public input campaigns.

● Support communications efforts related to community engagement, including newsletters, social media, and public-facing updates.

Community Complaints Management

● Independently manage community complaints received through the hotline, email, and in-person meetings (e.g., board meetings).

● Working across teams to utilize the expertise of DC PCSB staff to address concerns and facilitate solutions.

● Analyze and send complaint reports to highlight issues related to other teams' work, identify trends, and recommend preventive actions.

● Provide training on community complaints procedures and processes, supporting the New Leader Training.

● Review and identify ways to improve the complaint process to enhance efficiency.

Competencies

● Strong customer service skills with an emphasis on responsiveness and empathy.

● Ability to navigate Microsoft Excel proficiently for data analysis and reporting.

● Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM system.

● Proven track record of delivering timely and quality work products.

● Willingness to collaborate with others, work on-site as needed, and manage sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion

● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to assess and address complaints effectively

● Strong understanding of DC or public charter schools

● Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills

Qualifications

● Experience in school-based education, operations, or community engagement

● Degree in Education or a related field

● Experience working with diverse communities

COMPENSATION

Salary is competitive and commensurate with prior experience in a similar role. DC PCSB offers a comprehensive benefits plan covering 100% of the employee’s insurance premium. To foster fair competition practices within our organization, there is a non-negotiation policy built within our compensation system. The salary band for this position is $70,898-$82,141.
