Financial Analysis Specialist (Contractor Role)

About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical contractor to support our team during a temporary leave of absence. This role will focus on drafting various components of financial analysis reports, mapping and interpreting financial data, assisting in the quarterly review of interim financial statements, and supporting other key functions of the school finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting and financial analysis, with the ability to synthesize financial information into clear, professional written deliverables.
This contract role is expected to be 10 - 40 hours per week.
Core Responsibilities:
● Draft clear, structured, and accurate components of financial analysis reports based on the review of financial statements and related documentation.
● Map and analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential areas of concern.
● Assist in the quarterly review of interim financial statements, including identifying financial risks, elevating issues for further review, and formulating appropriate questions for Local Education Agencies (LEAs).
● Synthesize complex financial and qualitative data into professional written summaries suitable for internal and external stakeholders.
● Collaborate with internal team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting and documentation.
● Support additional school finance team functions as needed.

Knowledge, Experience & Competencies:
Knowledge:
● Strong Accounting and Financial Analysis Expertise
● The contractor must have a solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles and the ability to interpret and analyze financial statements, identify trends, and recognize anomalies. CPA-level experience preferred.
Experience:
● 4+ years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or auditing
● Hands-on experience preparing or reviewing financial reports and statements
● Familiarity with interpreting and mapping financial data from multiple sources
● Exposure to quarterly and/or interim financial statement reviews
● Experience drafting professional written deliverables that synthesize financial data for non-finance audiences
● Prior work in education, nonprofit, or government finance (a plus, not required)
● Demonstrated ability to work independently in a contract/temporary role and deliver on tight deadlines

● Ability to distill complex financial data into key insights and draw logical, supportable conclusions. Must be able to assess risk indicators and articulate implications clearly.
Clear and Concise Written Communication
● Skilled in drafting structured, formal written financial observations that are accurate, succinct, and tailored for an internal or external audience. The ability to synthesize data and present findings in a professional tone is critical.
Professional Judgment and Critical Inquiry
● Ability to identify areas of concern, formulate appropriate follow-up questions, and elevate material issues for further review. Sound judgment must be applied to determine the relevance and significance of findings.

Compensation:
The hourly rate is competitive and commensurate with prior experience in a similar role. The starting hourly rate for this role is $125 with a maximum of $200 per hour. This role is not eligible for benefits.
